After a deep cleaning or flap surgery, a molar can temporarily feel looser. This is because inflamed tissue has been removed and the gums need to reattach. In addition, swelling that previously supported the tooth may now have subsided. As healing progresses, the gums usually tighten up again and the mobility decreases. Looseness does not necessarily mean that a tooth will be lost. The jawbone can partly recover with good care. Your practitioner checks the mobility during follow-up appointments. With aftercare, correct brushing instructions and check-ups, the situation can stabilise. In severe cases the tooth is temporarily splinted. Time and oral hygiene are the key to recovery from mobility after treatment.

Why does my molar feel loose after gum treatment?
