How long does sensitivity last after periodontal treatment?

Usually 1-2 weeks, but it can sometimes last longer.

Sensitivity after periodontal treatment is normal and usually disappears within two weeks. The teeth may be temporarily sensitive to cold, heat or touch. This is because root surfaces are exposed after the removal of inflamed tissue. Use a soft toothbrush and a special toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Avoid acidic or very cold drinks during the recovery phase. Painkillers such as paracetamol can relieve the discomfort. If the sensitivity has not decreased after three weeks, please contact us. Sometimes additional treatment is needed, such as fluoride varnish or a filling. Extreme sensitivity may indicate a complication that needs to be checked. Patience and good oral care speed up the recovery process. Follow all of your practitioner's aftercare instructions carefully.
