Recommendations for referring dentists
We greatly appreciate you entrusting your patients to us. Our aim is to create a seamless collaboration in which patients feel that our practice is an extension of yours. To achieve this as effectively as possible, we would like to share a few practical recommendations:
1. An informative referral
The more complete the information you share with us, the better we can tailor the care. We would like to receive:
- Information about the teeth and/or quadrants involved
- An overview of treatments already carried out
- Your preferences for future treatment
These details help us to integrate your recommendations into the treatment plan and ensure clarity in treatment planning.
2. Informing patients
Please let your patients know that their first appointment with us is intended for examination and assessment. Any treatment takes place during a separate appointment. This allows us to:
- Coordinate the treatment carefully with you
- Prepare the patient properly for the care and for the financial aspects of the treatment
3. X-rays
Old or recent X-ray images are very welcome and prevent duplication. For optimal diagnostics we recommend:
- A full-mouth series of X-rays for extensive cases
- A periapical X-ray for targeted cases
- An orthopantomogram (OPT) for implantology
We are happy to receive X-rays in JPEG format by email; we can easily import these into our patient file.
4. Emergencies
In acute situations, the referral works best if you schedule the patient straight away while they are still at your practice. Do feel free to call us at that moment: we can often offer an emergency consultation the same day.
5. Check-ups and collaboration
We advise patients to continue having their routine check-ups at your practice. This keeps your team involved and well informed about progress during treatment with us.
In the case of shared care (when a patient is being treated at more than one practice), it is helpful to receive copies of recent X-rays from you as well – bitewings in particular are valuable for our periodontal assessment.
6. Consultation and contact
We are always open to consultation by telephone or in writing about your patients, including before their first visit. The better we share information, the better the care we can provide together.
Do you have any questions, comments or suggestions? Please feel free to contact us – we are happy to think things through with you and are always willing to coordinate treatment planning.
