Can I exercise after dental surgery?

Intensive exercise is not advised in the first few days after the procedure.

After a dental procedure such as flap surgery or implant placement, rest is important. Intensive exertion can disrupt wound healing and cause post-operative bleeding. It is therefore advisable to wait at least 48 hours before exercising. Strenuous exertion raises your blood pressure and can put pressure on the surgical area. Walking or light movement is usually not a problem. If you are taking painkillers or antibiotics, this may also affect how much you can handle. Listen carefully to your body and contact us if in doubt. Your practitioner can give you tailored advice for your situation. After a few days to a week you can usually start building up again gently. If there are complications, you should postpone exercising for longer.
