Periodontology - Treatments

What is the purpose of an interim evaluation in periodontitis?

To determine whether the treatment is working and whether further steps are needed.

An interim evaluation usually takes place three months after the initial treatment. The clinician measures the periodontal pocket depths again and checks for bleeding and tartar. These measurements show whether the inflammation is under control. If the pockets have become shallower, we move on to the aftercare programme. If the improvement is insufficient, surgical treatment may be needed. The evaluation is also the moment to look at oral hygiene and motivation. The results are discussed with you and recorded. This appointment is essential for long-term success. It sets the direction for the next phase and helps prevent relapse. It is an objective measurement that shows the result of your efforts.
