Implants - Other Aspects

What is bone augmentation treatment?

A procedure to rebuild jawbone in preparation for implants.

Bone augmentation is a surgical treatment in which lost jawbone is replenished. This procedure is needed when there is too little bone to place an implant. Bone can be lost through tooth loss, infections or a long period without teeth. During the procedure, synthetic bone material or bone from your own body is inserted. This bone material stimulates the formation of new bone tissue. The recovery time is usually several months. Only then can the implant be placed safely. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. Your clinician will discuss the risks and expectations with you beforehand. Bone augmentation increases the chances of a successful, long-lasting implant.
