Implants - Other Aspects

Can an implant-supported bridge be whitened?

No, ceramic does not respond to bleaching agents.

The colour of ceramic bridges is fixed permanently during fabrication. Whitening treatments only work on natural teeth. Dark margins around implants cannot be lightened. Aesthetic problems require replacement of the bridge. Temporary discolouration from staining is removed by professional cleaning. Patients must be happy with the chosen shade before the bridge is fitted. Whitening the natural teeth beforehand ensures a good colour match. Digital shade matching prevents colour differences. If discolouration is caused by metal, the entire bridge has to be replaced.
