How is an implant-supported bridge removed?

By unscrewing the screws or breaking the cement bond.

Screw-retained bridges: access is gained through the occlusal screw holes. Cement-retained bridges: an ultrasonic instrument breaks the cement layer. If there is a risk of fracture, the crown is cut in half with a diamond bur. Temporary cement makes removal for maintenance easier. Complete removal of the implants themselves is rarely necessary. After removal, the bone is cleaned ready for possible re-placement. The procedure takes 15-60 minutes depending on complexity. Patients receive a temporary restoration during the revision. Cost: €150-€500 for removal plus a new temporary crown. Digital scans speed up the fabrication of the replacement bridge.
