Periodontology - Aftercare and Recovery

How long does recovery take after a sinus lift?

On average 4 to 6 months for full bone integration.

A sinus lift is a significant oral surgical procedure in the upper jaw. After the bone material has been placed, it needs to integrate with the jawbone. Initial healing takes around 1 to 2 weeks, during which swelling and tenderness may occur. Complete bone formation and stability take 4 to 6 months on average. During this period you need to be careful with the sinus. Sneezing with your mouth open and avoiding heavy pressure on the area are recommended. Your clinician will monitor progress regularly with scans or X-rays. The implant can only be placed once healing has been successful. Good general health and not smoking speed up the recovery process. Follow all instructions carefully for the best result.
