How long do stitches stay in after gum surgery?

Stitches are usually removed after 7 to 14 days.

After gum surgery, the edges of the wound are often stitched so that they can heal properly. There are two types of stitches: dissolvable and non-dissolvable. Non-dissolvable stitches are removed at the practice after 1 to 2 weeks. Dissolvable stitches disappear on their own, usually within 2 to 3 weeks. Your clinician will tell you which type has been used. While the stitches are in place, it is important to brush carefully. A mouth rinse is often recommended to prevent infection. Avoid pulling on the stitches with food or your tongue. If you experience pain or swelling, or if stitches come loose, contact the practice. The follow-up appointment is usually scheduled for when the stitches are removed.
