During the first consultation, you get to know your clinician. A detailed questionnaire about your medical history is gone through. The dentist or periodontist examines your oral health and, if necessary, measures your gums. Sometimes X-rays or a 3D scan are also taken to get a better picture of your jaw structure. On the basis of this information, a provisional diagnosis is made. You then discuss the possible treatment options and expectations together. You will receive an explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of the various treatments. You will also usually receive an estimate of the expected costs. There is time to ask all your questions. The aim of this consultation is to give you clarity about the approach and the next steps.
