Implants - Prosthetics

What is the difference between a bridge and a partial denture?

A bridge is fixed, a partial denture is removable.

Fixed bridges are cemented onto natural teeth or implants. Partial dentures are removable replacements with a metal or acrylic base. Bridges require the adjacent teeth to be prepared as abutments. Dentures preserve more natural tooth structure. Bridges feel more natural and offer better chewing function. Dentures are cheaper and easier to adjust. Maintaining a bridge requires special flossing techniques. Dentures should be taken out at night to rest the gums. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation. Your dentist can advise which option best suits your needs.
